Jesus the Christ, a Shining Light for a Fallen World Full of Darkness

Through out the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation there is one main theme. God the Father’s redeeming love for mankind. Jesus came to be the light of the world over 2,000 years ago. The light came into this fallen world when Jesus was born in Bethlehem and fulfilled what was spoken through the prophets.

700 years earlier, the prophet Isaiah described the coming of the promised Messiah. “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined.” (Isaiah 9:2)

The prophet is referring to spiritual darkness.

Jesus was born in Bethlehem as predicted in Micah 5:2; “But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrata, too little to be among the clans of Judah. From you one will go forth for me to be ruler in Israel, his goings forth are from long ago, from the days of eternity.” Says the Lord.

This prophecy will not be completely fulfilled until the King of Kings comes back to establish his Kingdom which will happen at the appointed time. Let’s not be ignorant of the fact that many prophecies concerning Jesus have already been fulfilled, so there is no reason to doubt that the remaining unfulfilled prophecies will come to pass.

The Scriptures say that Jesus was “in the world” (John 1:10) but He was not of this world.  That is to say, Jesus did not have His origin in this world. Think about what this means. His birth in Bethlehem was not the beginning of His life!  He is the Lord of  heaven.

The baby born in Bethlehem was the “true Light” (John 1:9), the pure light of heaven. He stepped out of heaven for 33 years to be a gift for us and will some day bring heaven to earth.

Why is Jesus Called “The Light of the World”, You Ask?

In the physical world, there is nothing as pure as light.  Light cannot be defiled or corrupted, no matter what it passes through or what it falls on.  Light can never be stained or tarnished. It can shine through a dingy window or a murky jar of water and what the light does is expose the dirt. Jesus exposed the truth our sinful nature, the corruption of the ruling leaders of the day and the promise of redemption offered to both Jew and Gentile alike.

What’s more, light is unvarying in nature. Jesus is steadfast in his purpose, devotion and affection for us. He is the only mediator for us so that we may have a redeemed eternal relationship with the one and only living God.

In a world full of fairy tales, myths and deceit isn’t it comforting to know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel? That light is Christ Jesus.

Hebrews 9:27 states; “It is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment.” Are you willing to see the light? I pray that you will do so, all you have to do is look for the light and you will find it.
